tree is an ancient discovery and a most durable substance. Recently,
archaeologists excavated a 2,000-year-old flooded tomb in China to
find lacquerware intact with all the crispness and color as the day
it was created. In that tradition, our covered box has been
fashioned and carved by hand in China using ancient methods. Layer
upon layer of lacquer, colored with cinnabar, is applied to a wood
or resin form. Only the most highly skilled of craftsmen are
entrusted with the hand carving. One slip of the knife and the box
